More pics

Mass this AM, volunteered at rectory and now home to pick up/putz.

More pics of long ago:

Couple of pics of the Kelley Hotel and one of the old Iola court house. My mom worked at the Kelley Hotel. We lived across the street at the Iola Hotel  where my dad managed  the 49 rooms. It had a wonderful large front porch, and nice roof top to see all the Holiday parades. To the South of the Iola Hotel was a Montgomery Ward Store and a shoeshine parlor and the Iola Theater to the North.

The court house was located in the central square w/a door on each side of the building.  The door locations provided a great entrance and exit for our local kid speed skating group. We would separate into small groups, gather at each door, hollar "GO" and rip through one door and out the other----the sound was maddening--- all that metal wheel clatter going over the closely placed  tiles w/kids laughing/ and squealing. This was a weekly event until poor planning (we did it the same day/time  each week) led to our getting captured by the clerks who had fun chasing us and even more fun calling our folks to come and get us. Think it took about a month for the clerks to figure out our schedule.

Stay healthy, safe, and keep in touch.

Lily and Lantana

Treating you to flower pics--Rose Lily bloomed this AM and Lantana is coming into its own w/the warm weather.
Mass, mowing this AM and Music Theater this afternoon. Call it a 3 M Day.
Have a calendar w/great quotes: Martha Washington said, " I am determined to be cheerful and happy whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition." WOW!
Have a great weekend, stay cool, healthy, safe, and in touch.

Weather and Ma Report

Nine degrees, no wind, still dark, lots of snow still on the ground here. Checked the weather and saw that Gilmer, TX is expecting some rain/snow---do they even have winter coats and snow shovels in that part of the world? Blowing snow in Brooklyn and Bristow, VA. One of our TX crew is in DC/VA area on business---take care dear----hope you brought your boots. Enough of the weather.

Busy day planned. Mass, volunteering at rectory, lunch w/friend, load more wood in the firewood racks, and get ready to settle in this evening w/the "boys." Am thinking I might have to have surgery before the winter to remove the "boys" from my lap/hip/rear end---sometimes I feel they are permanently affixed. Either that or join a syncopated/synchronized/something class as they follow my every motion/movement and should perform with excellence in a formal class.
Hope your day is not full of trivia or you will be classified as worthless. Remember, I am retired and can be trivial---you are employed and must be productive. Repeat after me.....

Take care to stay healthy, be safe, and keep in touch.

Go, Go, Go

Slept in yesterday (7:22am), still made it to Mass and was on the go all day until about 8:30pm.

Snow in the forecast for the next few days. Still real cold but not in single digits--yet. Plan to go to Mass, volunteer at the rectory, bring in more firewood, reload the outside back patio firewood rack, do some laundry, pick up the house, and continue with the ongoing "purgatorial" job of sorting, filing, shredding papers in my old office. Need to just get it done!
Played cards yesterday afternoon with the grandest group of ladies. We met at a restaurant, ate lunch, and played from noon to 3:30pm. There were enough present to have 5 tables. These ladies have done this for years and have it down to a science. Loved listening to the side conversations. This week was canasta, next week pitch. May just have another Sunday card game day to brush up on pitch.
Stay warm, healthy, safe, and keep in touch.
